Phil is an experienced big fish angler who has succeeded on some of the UK’s toughest waters such as Burghfield and the famous Yateley Car Park Lake. His PB is one of the country’s most famous carp of all time, Heather the Leather at over 50lbs. Since joining us a consultant in 2007 Phil has gone on to become an integral part of our team presenting CCMTV on a regular basis as well as editing our bi-monthly E-News.
Phil says: “I’m extremely proud to be part of the CC Moore team and have thoroughly enjoyed working with such an exciting and forward thinking company for the last four years. Since switching over to their baits I’ve never looked back.“
The majority of my angling revolves around targeting big carp. I get a real buzz fishing for the big carp in difficult pits that only get caught a couple of times a year. This type of angling involves a great deal of patience because the bites are few and far between but I really enjoy the challenge it brings!
I work full time so all my angling takes place at the weekends, Friday and Saturday nights in other words, however during the spring and autumn I use my holiday entitlement which means I can usually start on a Thursday night and beat the weekend crowds. This can prove a massive edge at times.
Oh there’ve been loads over the years. I really enjoyed the four seasons I spent fishing Burghfield. Back then the lake was much quieter and there were just a handful of us with a 96 acre maze of water to play with! In recent times I suppose the Car Park at Yateley was special. To catch Heather the Leather was definitely a high point that probably took a couple of months to sink in properly!
For the majority of the year I pretty much just stick with the Odyssey XXX range. I use a few different size boilies which I like to give a boost with the Feedstim XP, awesome stuff. Now and again I might use a more particle based approach and that’s when things like the Steep Black Tigers and particle mixes come into play. During the winter I’m much more likely to experiment with different stick mixes, hookbaits and pellets etc.
Hopefully somewhere a little quieter than the pit I’m currently fishing! I’ve got a couple of special waters in mind for the future which I would dearly love to fish and you never know I might have another crack at Burghfield. Wherever it takes me I’m sure I’ll still be enjoying it as much as I do today!
