This big Barbel was caught a few days ago from a Thames Tributary at a spawned out weight of 14lb 14oz on a short evening session by Stewart Moss and is one of the biggest authenticated Barbel reported nationally this season so far. Stewart Moss with a Barbel at 14lb 4oz

This beautiful specimen was tempted by 2 hair-rigged 10mm CC Moore Meteor Boilies mounted on a size 11 Drennan Super Specialist Barbel hook with a short coated Stripteaze braid hooklength. The only freebies that were introduced were done so with a small PVA Mesh bag on the hook containing a mixture of 10mm Meteor boilies and some pellets and each cast was left in situ for an hour to avoid disturbing swim.

The power-packed double fought exceptionally hard for a big fish, and at one point kited to the left and got under a half submerged willow growing out into the river before locking up solid. No changes of angle made any difference, but Stewart’s experience taught him not to panic so he put the rod in the rest again and 3 or 4 minutes later the tip started banging again. Stewart quickly gave the fish some serious pressure with 4 foot of rod under water and soon got it out into open water again.

The final stages of the fight were plain sailing as the fish plodded about in typical big fish fashion until he could net it at the first attempt.

Well done on your great result Stewart!
