On a roll on Roach!

Just a month or two ago Poole, Dorset-based angler Sam Bascombe reported a superb result from Cemex Angling’s tough Roach Pit venue in Ringwood where he banked five of the prized residents in a session using our Odyssey XXX boilies and other CC Moore products.

After a quiet period for the lake we were delighted to see that Sam has achieved another great result in catching another cracking 40lb fish from the water.

Sam told us:

"After my recent 5 fish success on my syndicate, Cemex Roach Pit, I was not surprisingly unable to get back into the same swim for some time. I therefore had to face facts so decided to concentrate on another area of the lake which has over the years produced one of my target fish on a few occasions; a stunning long scaly fish known as Sean’s Fish.

I spent three weekends in the new swim baiting it quite heavily with the superb CC Moore Betaine Ultramix pellet blend and Odyssey XXX boilies. Although I managed a couple of twenties I felt it was still a bit early to be targeting this fish so on the following Sunday decided to have a change of swims.

As I arrived at the lake by around 7.30am on Sunday morning it was fairly quiet and I managed to find a few feeding fish and to make things even better my friend Dan was leaving that day so I could drop in the swim after he had gone. Before long I was in the swim and, after a quick lead about, had the rods clipped up to the spot.

The Dark One

The plan was to fish two rods on the spot that was around 50yrds out and spread a big hit of Betaine Ultramix and 15mm Odyssey XXX boilies over my two rods hinged stiff links which were baited with 18mm Odyssey XXX corkball pop ups on hinged stiff link rigs. I had this done by 6pm at sat back with a beer and watched the water for any signs of movement.

Later that night, at around 1.30am, I started to receive savage liners as the fish had moved in.

The liners continued right through the night and as I had received no action by first light I was starting to think that something was wrong at the rig end. Then out of the blue at 7.45am I had an absolute screaming take.

After a short fight I once again had the stunning ‘Dark One’ in the net at 41lb – a full 6lb bigger than when I had it a couple of months ago!

The incredible Odyssey XXX and Betaine Ultramix combination had done the job for me once again. I cannot tell you how much I rate this as a bait combination. It’s certainly helping my catch rate; I’m having the season of my life!”

Stop Press Just before Sam’s latest capture we also got news from Duncan Maclean that he had just visited the same Roach Pit venue and had promptly knocked out a 25lb common and this fantastic 43lb 10oz mirror known as Orange Scale, again using the Roach Pit-renowned Odyssey XXX.

Well done to Sam and Duncan, it’s great to see all their hard work rewarded.
