Greg and XXX do it again!

We have just received a report from a delighted Greg Alexander letting us know that he has banked one of the most sought after fish in the country. Whilst fishing at the prestigious Milton Abbas venue in Dorset Greg finally slipped his net under what is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful fish in the UK in the shape of the Baby Common at a new all-time high weight of 47lb 8oz.

We believe that Southampton-based big fish ace Greg is now the fifth consecutive angler to catch this stunning specimen on the irresistible Odyssey XXX freezer bait which is laced with an unprecedented 10% Green Lipped Mussel Extract. Odyssey XXX laced with Green Lipped Mussel Extract

Greg told us:

I got down to the lake on friday night for a two-nighter. The water has had an algae bloom for the last month; something that happens every year at this time and lasts about two months making the fish difficult to spot. Up in a swim called ‘The peninsula’ I found a smoked up area out to the right at about 15yds range. You could just make it out in the light and it was getting on so that would do for a night. I quickly put a few baits on the coloured area and left it, putting the other two rods out first further out into the middle of the lake where the blanket weed is flatter. These were both fished on helicopter rigs with short hooklinks; baited with a 18mm xxx cork ball pop ups sticky with Liquid Shellfish Concentrate and Feedstim XP, all balanced with a shot so the hook lies flat on the lake bed.

I then put out about a kilo of mixed sized Odyssey XXX boilies straight from the bag. Just on dark I put the 3rd rod out onto the coloured spot; this time with a hinged stiff link and a 15mm pop up in the same glug and a small lead followed by 50 x 10mm and 15mm baits and several 18mmers.

An hour or so later the rod on the colour was away, producing a very hard fighting 26lb common. This was followed at 4 ‘o’ clock the next morning by a mid double scaley mirror. I was putting a pound of xxx in after each fish and they were soon getting on it. At 5 ‘o’ clock I had another take and after a sluggish fight I netted what I thought was a low 30 comnmon- until I pulled the mesh apart and was eye ball to eyeball with ‘The Baby Common’.

She went 47lb 8oz............ my first common over 30lb, a new pb and lake record, (possibly pipping Mr Moore to the annual bait award for the biggest fish - pay up Ian –It’s not like you need it!)

She looked great and we got some excellent photos. Some very messy celebrations ensued up at the pub later that evening, but I did manage a 29lb common on a ‘pub chuck’ the following morning.

This incredible looking common has put on another 2lb since it was caught by Ian Moore in October and looks likely to move towards the magical 50lb mark at some point during the next 12 months.

This caps a string of awesome results achieved by Greg Alexander over the past 3-4 years which includes fish from Cemex Rockford and most if not all of the big fish from Cemex Roach Pit.

this it’s no wonder fish can’t resist it.
Two mouthfuls in one!!!!
As with many CC Moore customers in the area Greg’s bait of choice has been Odyssey XXX for some time and now gives him such confidence that he can put bait selection out of his mind completely.

During his momentous session as well as the Baby Common Greg also managed to catch another two fish in the form of these 29lb 10oz and 26lb 15oz commons.

We would like to give Greg our warmest congratulations on his superb result in catching this stunning fish and look forward to seeing him receive his prize at the annual Milton Abbas prize giving ceremony.

Well done Greg!
