Andrew told us:

“Grenvilles is a deep lake and this swim fishes to the plateau which is relatively shallow.

I was fishing to a permanent marker at approximately 95 yards in the famous/infamous cabin swim and it was my left hand rod which had only just recently been recast and landed around a rod length past the marker in about twelve foot of water which ripped off first. This rod was baited with Northern Specials (White) on a chod rig and had been fed with Live System 18mm boilies.

Whilst playing the fish I could see which one it was due to the exceptional clarity and soon recognised it to be the large two-tone fish in the venue. It was one of the fish on my hit list after watching Max Cottis catch it the previous Autumn.

After doing photos and weighing the fish at a staggering 42.12lb, I baited heavily again with 18mm Live System (around 10kg!) as I thought that maybe where the big girls were feeding due to my result and others that showed over the weekend.

During the next couple of days I gradually noticed the mark clearing as the fish cleaned up the bait. I decided to fish my trusted bottom bait rig with a Northern Special/Live System snowman, which produced my next take on the same rod; this time a 24.14 mirror mid afternoon on Monday. Action seemed to dry up and Tuesday produced no results and I wondered whether my chances were starting to slip away, how wrong I was.

At about 4.15am the next morning I was awoken by an absolute belting take, again to the same rod. By the time I got to the rod it was a long way past the marker. As I gained control the fish kited slowly from left to right covering about 150 yards; all the time feeling like a dull, heavy weight. The fight truly kicked off under the rod tip and it was probably a good 15 minutes before I had the fish under control and taking air. Slipping the net under the fish in the twilight of dawn I knew I'd got a result.

At a weight of 43.05lb it was not only the second largest fish from the lake but along with the previous forty completed the first brace of forties during a session at Grenvilles.”

Well done Andrew - that really is a superb result!

As we’ve said before................You can’t beat the ‘System’
