This five day 'carp match' was preceded by all the teams being allocated swims in order to prepare for the starting rocket. Once under way the first fish was caught by Dave Lane after seventy five minutes, a capture which counted towards a three fish haul that earned him and his partner Paul Forward a section win. 

Shortly after this the English pairing of Andrew Judd and Peter Truckle (from Dorset and Wiltshire respectively) started their incredible run of captures which catapulted them clear of the field and into a commanding lead. Their carefully considered tactics for the event included the use of the devastatingly effective Odyssey XXX freezer bait which the Lac Madine fish (like most others) seemed to take an instant liking to.

Andrew and Peter's record-breaking 11 fish haul included numerous stunning fish to over 50lb and at a total weight of 309lb+ averaged a mightily impressive 28lb+.

With fish coming at regular intervals through the event the pair of Judd and Truckle really left the competition standing and weighed in at the final siren with a total of more than 110lbs (50kg) ahead of the pair in second place. This remarkable tally was a record for the number of fish banked and the total weight caught throughout the ten year history of what is regarded by many as the premier competition in world 'match carp angling.'

Not only did they win the title of World Carp Classic 2008 champions, they also shared the massive £10010.00 first prize winners' cheque, making it a quite memorable (and rewarding!) event. When we caught up with the pair they admitted that the win was still sinking in and that the publicity and congratulations they had been receiving had been quite surreal.

Unbeknown to us Andrew and Peter have been using Odyssey XXX for some time on their foreign trips and felt that the edge and confidence it gave them really helped in their win.
